In a showdown that would make Jerry Seinfeld proud, Brody's Diner has clinched the title of Best Breakfast Place in Central Massachusetts.
This beloved Shrewsbury eatery won over telegram.com readers, triumphing in the poll that closed at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Brody's Diner edged out Worcester's City Line Diner in the final round, capturing a whopping 67% of the 48,197 votes. Throughout the contest's four rounds, over 500,000 votes were cast by enthusiastic breakfast lovers.
Nestled on Route 20, Brody's Diner gained fame in 2014 when Seinfeld filmed an episode of "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" there. While Seinfeld might appreciate the readers' choice, he might have preferred a write-in vote for Monk's Café.
“It feels great. It feels awesome,” exclaimed Suzanne Panarelli, one of Brody’s three owners. “We are very blessed to have such amazing support from our customers.”
Since the poll began, Brody's has welcomed an influx of new patrons, with regulars eagerly anticipating the victory. “They feel so invested in us, which is great,” Panarelli added.
To celebrate, the staff plans a victory toast (with real toast) and will proudly display the news story of their win on the diner's wall.
Joining the ranks of I Love Frankie's (Best Pizza) and Froze Zone (Best Ice Cream), Brody's is now a crowned champion in telegram.com's reader polls. Originally a truck stop, Brody's is co-owned by Panarelli, Christina Gonzalez, and Frank Youkstetter, all former employees who continue to serve up a Patriots-themed menu.
The Best Breakfast contest began with 16 contenders and featured four knockout rounds, culminating in the final face-off between Brody's and City Line. Reader nominations set the stage for this delicious competition. Source Worcester Telegram.com
